The role of design in the energy transition: Jochen Eisenbrand (Vitra Design Museum)

In order to stop climate change, we urgently need to move away from fossil fuels and towards CO2-free energy. Just as the dependence on these raw materials has permeated our everyday lives down to the smallest detail, the ongoing transition to renewable energies will also influence our lives and shape our environment in the future. This is why the energy transition is also a design task. Design mediates between science, research and users. It finds new applications for new technologies, visualizes alternative energy futures and can thus help us to critically question our consumption habits. Jochen Eisenbrand's lecture presents current examples of product design, speculative design and architectural and urban planning.
