With the pilot project "The little green station", Deutsche Bahn AG wants to adapt its station buildings, especially in rural areas. The projects, whose concept is being developed by DB Station&Service AG's internal architecture office, focus on the use of sustainable and regional raw materials and a standardised construction method so that the timber construction offers a wide range of design options - including a waiting room, service gate and all the necessary infrastructure. The first reception building was opened in Zorneding, Bavaria, at the end of 2023. Completion of the second project for Haar, which is also located in Bavaria, is planned for early summer 2024. A total of up to 20 small green stations are to be built across Germany in the coming years.
