The Cologne-based hydrogen truck rental company Hylane is expanding its fleet by 78 additional hydrogen trucks. According to the company, the vehicles have proven themselves in practical use in heavy road freight transport. 26 of the new vehicles as part of the procurement announced in May come from the manufacturer Iveco. The manufacturer of the remaining vehicles is not yet known.

The total fleet, which is already the largest hydrogen truck fleet in the EU, now comprises 122 vehicles. The vehicles were procured as part of the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative drive systems by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. With the expansion of the fleet, the company is responding to the high demand: "We are delighted with the positive development of the company. We particularly appreciate the fact that we can further consolidate the trust of our existing customers and successfully expand our business with them," says Hylane CEO Bernd Zens. Zens continues: "The sustained demand confirms that we are on the right track and motivates us to work even harder on our plans." Sara Schiffer, also Managing Director, adds: "The cooperation with Iveco represents a significant milestone in our company history. We see enormous demand and the greatest potential for reducing CO2 emissions in the 40-tonner segment in particular. In addition, with Iveco we are gaining a strong partner with an established workshop network, which is of great importance to us.

Hylane and Iveco are also cooperating to expand their workshop network: Hylane lessees of hydrogen trucks from the manufacturers Iveco and Hyundai have access to selected and certified workshops. The FCEV tractor units from Iveco have a range of up to 800 kilometers. The tanks can store up to 70 kilograms of hydrogen at a pressure of 700 bar and supply two fuel cells with an output of around 200 kW. The eAxle draws its energy from the fuel cells and the two battery packs, which are installed in the middle of the frame. The system output is 400 kW. The permissible total weight of the vehicle is 44 tons.
