Description

The Netherlands is a trailblazer when it comes to the harmonisation of train and bike mobility. The numbers don't lie: 46 percent of Dutch train passengers cycle to the station and 20 percent continue their journey by bike. In Germany, on the other hand, only ten percent cycle to the station and less than three percent continue their journey by bike. Bicycles and trains complement each other as an alternative mode of transport to the car. While bicycles are very flexible and fast for short and medium distances, rail transport is fast and comfortable for longer distances.

A broad network of rail and cycling stakeholders have come together in an initiative to explore solutions to strengthen cycling transport and advocate for the necessary policy changes. Alexander Rosenthal, Head of Policy of the cycling industry association Zukunft Fahrrad, will talk about the current topics and ideas in his presentation.
