Google Maps introduces real-time information for electric car drivers

The latest version of Google Maps brings improvements for electric car drivers. With real-time information on charging stations, AI-supported speed information and enhanced 3D views, the app optimizes navigation. It shows details about charging stations such as compatibility, charging times and usage history.

In future, Google Maps can help you find suitable charging stations for electric cars. The latest version of the map app for Android and iPhone contains useful information about the charging stations. For example, the app shows whether a charger is compatible with your car and whether the available chargers are fast, medium-fast or slow. Electric car drivers can also see when a charging station was last used to save time when searching for a faulty charging station. Drivers who do not have navigation software with real-time information on charging stations will particularly benefit from this innovation.

Google will also make the loading information available to developers via an application programming interface (API) so that other companies can also display the real-time information on their websites and in their apps. In addition, Google is expanding AI-based information on speed limits in Europe to 20 countries, including Germany. This means that the applicable speed limit is now also displayed while navigating with Google Maps.

The photorealistic 3D views (Immersive View) are also being expanded. They are now available for various cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo and Venice. In Germany, these views are currently only available for some sights in Berlin (e.g. Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, TV tower), Munich (e.g. Frauenkirche, Marienplatz, Nymphenburg Palace), Cologne (e.g. Dom, Museum Ludwig) and Frankfurt am Main (e.g. Alte Oper, Eiserner Steg).
